I took this picture not long ago with my bride.  What’s the special occasion you may ask?  Well, this day was NOT our 16^th wedding anniversary, that’s not until June, and no it’s NOT Karen’s 46^th birthday, that’s not until July.  But today is just as special.  In fact, everyday is special because I have a special bride who accepts me in spite of all my faults, fallacies, habits and hang-ups.

I’m not one that uses the word “Lucky” often, but I have to honestly say that I definitely got lucky when our paths crossed and our worlds collided on that 28^th day in the month of May.  It was the year of 1994 and days before OJ Simpson would have his infamous slow-speed chase down the notorious 405 Freeway in Los Angeles.  He was running away from the law and we were running away together.  I’m not sure if he did it or not, but I know I did it.  I sure did do it alright.  I got “LUCKY”!  I got lucky and found a diamond that was not in the rough.  I won’t bore you with the details, but talk about right place at the right time. Was hanging out at the beach the other day staring at the waves crashing into the shore and I suddenly felt a small wind of inspiration come over me so I grabbed my trusted old pen and pad and started writing as follows:

For those of us who’re seeking to make a positive impact on this world, it’s imperative we turn our trials into our triumphs, our mess into our message, our test into our testimony and our problems into our prophecy of a profound winning probability.  We must choose NOT to be a victim, but to be victorious, not for our own sakes, but for the sake of those who come after us so that they may see that “it” is possible.

In the face of crisis we will not cower away and retreat to that foxhole of fear and trepidation for we know that out of crisis comes “Opportunity”.  So instead, we rise, Rise and RISE again to take full advantage of our moments to shine and show that we were designed for a time such as this.  We’ve already studied in advance so that we can show ourselves approved in times like these.  Our mental surfboards have been waxed, polished and well-maintained to ride the countless waves of the unique opportunities in the days ahead.  Yes indeed we are a strange breed better known as “resilient overcomers.”  The words “no retreat, no surrender” comes to mind in troubled times for we know unequivocally that anything that’s worth-while in this life will always be realized on the other side of fear and adversity.  So we press-on toward the mark of the high call of our Creator and will not waver in our faith and belief that our goals are possible and our cause is indeed noble and just.

Our victory is inevitable simply because we have made the commitment to not stop until we WIN.  So my bold statement to life today is, “Bring it on”, for we will stay the course for yet one more day and welcome the challenge of the waves for we know between the crest and the crash of the waves exist the special “OPPORTUNITY” to be better today than we were yesterday.  So, BRING IT ON I say!!!

What words do you choose to speak today in lieu of the crashing waves around you?  I trust you will say the same.  BRING IT ON !!!  Let’s continue in our steadfast efforts to make this good life, GREAT!

Eye’s straight ahead will undoubtedly reduce the chances of you having an accident, so strategizing for your future is a welcomed activity in my book.  Are you ready to become who you already are?  Do you believe you’re capable of GREAT things?  Never mind.  Don’t answer those rhetorical questions.  I know you’re ready.  You’re welcome to lean on my belief in you until your belief in yourself fully kicks in.

I know something about you even though I may not know you personally. You were built and designed to be an “Overcomer“.  If that were not true, you wouldn’t be here today.  You would’ve acted on the quite, subtle thoughts of ending it all a looooong time ago.  Yes, I know you.  I know that your biggest battles in this life are the ones that you fight on the battle field of your own mind due to the countless heartaches and heartbreaks of the distant and not-so-distant-past events in your life.  But again, I call you “OVERCOMER!” because you’re still here.  I believe in YOU!

Many have missed their opportunity to affirm the strengths in you down through the years, but not me.  I will not miss my opportunity to say to you today that you are indeed a rare breed and are destined for GREAT things if you choose to embrace who you have become.  Yes, I know your kind very well.  I believe in you and to you I say today, congratulations for making it this far in your book of life.  Now it’s time to turn the page and grab a new ballpoint pen and start writing out the new and dramatically improved “YOU” for the entire world to see.

Someone desperately needs to hear your story of how you did it and how you’re doing it, so if not for your own sake, do it for them and your actions will not go unrewarded.  “Overcomer” you are and I applaud your efforts thus far, but your standing ovation awaits you in the days ahead.

So move forward today and everyday hereafter with a renewed vision of who you are, what you’re doing and why you’re here.  Let there be no question in your mind that you were custom-designed for a task such as this.  I say again, I believe in you and I encourage you to believe in “you,” for if you truly believe in your heart all things then become possible for you.

Congratulations in advance for those lives that will be forever changed because you did not pass on your unique opportunity to share your story like “Most People” would’ve.  Let’s continue to make it GREAT together!!!!!

You’re AWESOME just for being here.  Don’t take that awesomeness to the grave with you.  Not you…  Let’s share it.  Believe in your heart that you can and take this breadcrumb and make it GREAT!
