“The Conscience of a gang-banger”

Staring at the paper with a blue pen in my hand.
With an Officer and a Counselor waiting to see just where I stand.

A life of crime I’ve lived with second chance after second chance,
But now the time has come to run from the music or stay & dance.

Behind door #1 is a life of crime that never seems to pay.
But door #2 is much more scary because it starts a whole new day.

One that’s filled with new beginnings, an unpredictable journey of unknowns.
Where I’ll have to face all of my fears of feeling all alone.

My past friends have been my family or the closest to one I’ve seen,
I’ve never had a family model otherwise, not even in my dreams.

Now my choices are clear that door #1 leads to sure destruction or death.
While door #2 is just as scary for it’s filled with unfamiliar tests.

I agonize over which choice to make and start to lose my breath,
But I pulled it together to make the right choice, so I won’t end up like the rest.

If life gives you a choice between going left or going right,
Choose wisely my friends to avoid a tragic end like so many others plight.

I smile today from choosing the right way and I’m hoping you do the same.
Cause making the wrong choice will silence your voice forever, so please choose to change.

Wal-Mart parking lots are not only always full of cars, they’re also full of opportunities. “Opportunities for what?” you may ask. Well, opportunities to make someone’s day with a kind comment or kind gesture. Let me explain…

While walking to my car today I noticed an older Hispanic gentleman offering to wash windshields for a little spare change. Upon seeing this I went out of my way to get his attention. As I approached him I greeted him with a hearty hello and hand shake. I then reached in my pocket and gave him a crisp ten dollar bill.

“Do you know why I’m giving you this money?” I asked. “Yes, it’s because you’re a good Christian.” he said. I smiled at him and said, “No… I’m a Christian, but that’s NOT why I gave you this money.” He then looked at me with a puzzled look of confusion.

“Although I don’t need my windshield washed, I gave you this money because I want to support what you’re doing. Even though you may be in a struggle phase of your life right now, you don’t have your hand out asking for something for nothing.” I said. He beamed a toothless smile at me and offered his words of sincere thanks and said that he’s a worker that’s just looking for a hand-up and NOT a handout. We chatted a few more meaningful minutes then parted ways wishing each other well.

No, I didn’t walk away with cleaner windows today but I did walk away with a cleaner feeling of making someone smile. Yes my new friend Louie had a little more bounce in his step, zip in his hips and slide in his glide as he moved on through the parking lot looking for his next client. “GO GETT’EM LOUIE !!!” I yelled with a hardy laugh. 😉

This event reminded me that despite our situations and circumstance we can still do something that can enhance the lives of others. Yes my friends, in the game of life the doorway of value-added service swings both ways. Today Louie got a boost and a smile with a ten dollar bill and I got a boost and a smile with a much better feel. LOL

So a great question for you to ponder as you head into another wonderful, well-deserved weekend is, “Are you cashing-in on your opportunities to make someone else’s day Great?” Hmmm… No need to answer this question hear just make sure your intentions are crystal clear and have no fear as you roll through the rest of your year. Let’s keep Making it GREAT!!!

As chaos abounds all around causing many of us to wear a frown,
Stand your ground and don’t let it get you down in your town.

So out the door we go once more to be bullied by the status quo, but the one thing we should know is that this is how we grow.

So don’t you dare cry but keep your head held high in the sky
because you’re crystal clear on your reason “Why”. Now get-on out there and give it one more try!

It’s never too late to change your fate and alter your state and start Making it GREAT! Believe you can or Believe you can’t, either way you’re absolutely right.

I was climbing these stairs a few days ago and was suddenly reminded of an irrefutable fact that I want to remind you of as you approach this wonderful week.

The stairway to success in anything in life is paved with hardwood treads and risers. So, there’s no promise that everyday will be easy but it will be worth it, we just have to keep on stepping.

Simple clues to what’s at stake and what it takes to Make it GREAT are all around us if we just take time to stop, look, listen and take good notes.

So, let’s continue to push through the “hardwood” treads of life as we rise with every meaningful step and make this coming week so productive that last week gets insanely jealous. 🙂
