I just ran into an old friend today that I used to work with almost 20 years ago. Immediately I was reminded of why I liked being around him and it was because he was the lighter complexion mirror of myself. A big smile and a very welcoming demeanor and always talking positively was his personality.

A conversation ensued as we proceeded to catchup on the current activities and interest of each other’s lives. He advised me that he had been following my blog and personal development events online and was looking forward to one day attending at least one of them with a number of his clients.

I inquired about his current career interest and it was no surprise to me to hear that he was still working for the same organization and has now moved way up the chain of command. So then I asked the million dollar question. I said, “Well, are you happy?”

He paused for a few seconds, slanted his eyes at me and then struggled to respond. A few more awkward seconds later he managed to eek out the words, “Well, it has its ups and downs but its good money.” We laughed together a bit and shared a few reminiscent memories then we parted ways promising to meet each other for lunch soon.

While it was awesome reconnecting with my old friend, I must say that as I walked away I couldn’t help but to think that it appeared as if a little bit of my friend’s lively spirit had been sucked out of him over the years. The big spark that I once knew was not as big anymore. It truly seemed as if something was now missing and I couldn’t help but to wonder if he was slowly becoming a classic victim of what I call the “Good Money” syndrome. This is when a person decides to let a job making “good money” get in the way of living a “Great Life” with passion.

Yes my friends, this syndrome has been increasing in epidemic proportions over the years and it’s quietly snuffing out people’s sparkling light and robbing them of living a life rooted in so much more than just a “good” paycheck and mediocre existence. And to that end, I affectionately say, “Don’t let this be you.”

Never forget that we only get one time through this “life” thing, so let’s not just try to squeak by and make it “good”, but let’s be bold enough to do what it takes to Make it GREAT!

GREAT DAY!!!

Last night I had the strangest thing happen to me. In fact, it’s the first time I’ve ever experienced this in my 43 years of living. The experience caused a full swing of emotions from fear and panic to pure joy and elation. I guess it’s safe to say it’s a night that I’m not sure to forget anytime soon.

I’m sure you’re now wondering what exactly could have caused such a response from me huh? Well, I’ll tell you. Last night was the first time I’ve ever had a scary nightmare followed by a beautiful dream.

The nightmare I experienced placed me at the scene of an incredibly large office building. It was the typical stark & sterile design of that dreaded office combo colors of white and grey. As I walked along the corridors I noticed that everyone was wearing lanyard-badges around their neck and moving swiftly to their destinations making minimal eye-contact with the others around them. There was little conversation between the people as many of them were hanging out in their cubicles with an illusion of privacy buried behind a desk full of stacks and stacks of what seemed to be endless paperwork.

Each entrance was carefully guarded by official-looking people that wore a grimace on their face appearing to be suspect of everyone. And, the most surprising thing was that out of the hundreds of people I saw, not one of them was wearing a smile. The place appeared to be completely devoid of joy and happiness.

Then suddenly I was aggressively approached by two menacing looking guards that grabbed me by the arm and yelled, “Where is your badge!” I panicked and started screaming “NOOOOO!!!” and then suddenly I woke up.

Thank God that was just a dream. Or is it? Hmmm… The truth is that some of the facts and specifics may be a bit different but this type of dream is no doubt a reality for many. In fact, some people within eye and earshot of this message today may even be a bit irritated, uneasy or down-right upset at the fact that I’m pointing it out suggesting that such a place can be perceived as a “nightmare”. By all means I do not intend to criticize, complain or condemn those who have chosen to say “Yes” to such an existence, but my intent is to merely remind others that we all have a choice in where we go and what we choose to do to make a living daily.

Well, you’ll be happy to know that I managed to go back to sleep and to my surprise I had a dream that I was on a stage in the center of an arena that was packed to the rafters with thousands of people who were engaged and listening to a message that I was presenting. They were all laughing, smiling and nodding their heads in agreement with the nuggets and value I was providing to them. And as a result, my feeling of dread had now turned into a feeling of sure elation. Was this just a dream, or was it a premonition of what’s to come? Hmmm… I choose to accept it as the latter. 😉

So what are you dreaming lately? Are you basking in your area of passion daily, or are you just in an area or space doing time swapping hours for dollars with no real impact? Are you just making a living or are you living your making? Hmmm…

Just a little food for thought from Mr. BreadCrumb for you to chew on this week. So, eat up so you can go up and Make it GREAT!

GREAT DAY!!!

I’ve been thinking lately about a clear and present danger and threat to our national security that exist right here in our society that appears to be flying under the radar of the general public’s detection. Its mere existence and affects may even appear to be benign and ever-so-subtle on the surface, but the results if left unchecked can be as malignant as they come.

If you look closely you can even see remnants and evidence of the residual effects and fallout in the common areas and places and spaces of our society as we go about our day-to-day lives interacting with people. So what is this juggernaut-of-a-phenomena that could quite possibly unravel the very fabric of our great nation right under our very noses?

Well, it’s quite simply the poor education and mental de-socialization of our next generation and our society’s proliferation of more-and-more people coming out of school chasing the all-mighty-dollar rather than pursing an area of their gifts, talents and passions.

Our ability to challenge our youth and spark their creative juices in the respective areas of their gifts and passions should always be our main objective. After all, it’s the ingenuity of creative minds and innovation and invention in the area of people’s passion that has been the driving force behind the success of our great nation.

The unbridled ability of our youth to dream a Big dream and have the courage to pursue that dream with a tenacity that says “I will until” has been paramount in our journey as a superpower-nation.
Yes our national security may be under direct attack from within, but we can turn it all around and keep our country secure and lead it back to greatness once again and it all starts in our own home.

Yes that’s right my friends, we can engage our youth, challenge their intellect, raise the bar on our expectations of them and stimulate their mind. We can help them to identify their gifts, strengths and passions, then push and prod them in the direction of growing their gifts to their full potential. This definitely would be a positive step in the direction of making our country great once again. Let’s all choose to Make it GREAT!
