Great leadership requires wisdom and as such one can not lead effectively without continuing to expand his/her knowledge and know-how in his/her area of leadership and interest.
As this is true, then it stands to reason that when dealing with a team, a group or organization we can’t expect the other group members to exceed what we’re willing to invest in making our own selves better.
Simply put, if we’re not pushing to increase our own knowledge, education and personal skillsets to make our own self better, then we would be two kinds of crazy and three kinds of foolish to expect others around us to do any different.
I realize that this may be a very sobering reality for many so-called leaders out there in eye or ear-shot of this message but just remember that it’s never too late to start making it GREAT.
So if this shoe fits, don’t be afraid to swallow some pride and wear it as you commit to make a slight change in your own personal development regimen today that could definitely make a difference in your group’s outcome and results tomorrow. After all, groups only move at the speed and pace of their leaders. They’re watching you….. 🙂
So, let’s all keep leaning forward in our attempt to Make it GREAT!
GREAT WEEKEND!!!
“Shut Up!!!” My favorite two words to tell that quiet little voice inside of me that tries to tell me that I can’t. Feel free to use it sometime if you’d like, no charge.
Keep Making it GREAT!
I paused for a quick second this morning as I went to roll out of bed and realized that I was getting up on the wrong side, and you know what they say about getting up on the “wrong side of the bed.” But I immediately thought to myself, “what does it matter the side of bed I roll out on, I’m going to make this day GREAT anyway no matter what.” 🙂
Then I started with my morning mantra as usual:
“Feet hit the floor and I’m out the door,
Lord please let me live another 24.
Show me where to go and tell me what to do,
Enhance my ability to use my gifts and show me who to serve them to.
And as I face todays ADVERSITY may I keep my head held high,
And smile during the process because I’m just that kind of guy.
Promise to stay by my side through the thick and through the thin,
And at the end of this day may I smile and say ‘Once again WE WIN!!!”
And then I followed it up with doing my “Happy Dance”. LOL 🙂
Yes, I know this sounds a bit corny but it works for me.
You know I’ve found that starting my day with such an attitude really sets the tone for how I receive others and even more importantly how they receive me.
A positive attitude can be very contagious and positively infect all those within eye and earshot of the host. Nothing feels better than knowing that when you walk into a room you’re going to bring life and be celebrated instead of suck the life out of the room and just be tolerated.
So a good question today is, “Are you being celebrated or just tolerated in your space daily?” When you arrive on the scene do people smile and speak-out or frown and freak-out? When people see you do they say “hi” and wave or run for their cubicle cave? Hmmm…
Give it some serious thought today and I encourage you to make a point to choose your attitude wisely when the sun comes up so you can set the right tone for making your day and someone else’s day GREAT before the sun goes down. A morning mantra with a happy dance works for me. What about you? No need to answer here, just make sure you’re crystal clear as you attempt to make your day GREAT!
This little breadcrumb of wisdom can definitely give you that ever-elusive slight edge so eat up and enjoy and keep pushing to Make it GREAT!
Did you know that most people can be found guilty of waking up in the morning, but sleep-walking through their day on a regular basis? Yep it’s true and I’ve discovered that most of our predictable daily routines don’t allow for growth in the most important areas of our life.
As a result, I invite you to consider peppering your day with intentionality instead of humdrum, daily activities that leave you entertained and unchanged.
Consider making a point to venture outside of your comfort zone regularly and stretch your adventurous muscles. Try shopping at a different grocery store, pumping at a different gas station, work out at a different gym or taking a different route to work or something out of the realm of ordinary for you. I’m confident that you will discover that life really is more fulfilling when you’re on the other side of your “normal”.
Remember, nothing GREAT or Significant ever comes from inside of a box, so change up your routine from time-to-time and watch what happens. You may even meet a new friend or three.
This small breadcrumb of wisdom can definitely help you to Make it GREAT! So eat up and Make it GREAT!!!
