Those who have ears don’t just hear this message, but be moved to take action.  I invite you to consider this following truth today.  The quiet yearning of your true purpose and passion and unfulfilled dreams won’t ever let you be fully satisfied with anything less than their complete fulfillment and satisfaction.  They will quietly continue to call for your attention and consideration until your days are no more.

No amount of money will ever be enough to silence the ever-so-quiet beckon call of your true purpose.  No occupation will ever be able to quench the thirst of your unrealized and unrecognized passion.  The “good” is just a creative, cunning distraction from the “GREAT” and many the world over have fallen victim to settling for it time-and-time again.  Don’t let it be you.  I implore you to realize and recognize this unfortunate truth and reality and commit today that you will not be counted amongst this group of individuals who’re comfortable with settling for “good.”

Many will cast this message off as just another rambling of meaningless content and carry-on with their lives and tolerate the yearning of their unfulfilled purpose, but not you.  Many will discount and discard this message and quietly live out their lives becoming more and more accustom to turning a blind eye and deaf ear to their passion, but not you.  Many will allow themselves to be duped yet again by that internal whisper that says, “You’re okay, just continue this way,” but not you.

Yes my friends, we are indeed a different breed that will refuse to be satisfied until that quiet voice of unfulfilled  purpose is silenced.  We will refuse to ignore the yearning of our passion that’s calling us to give it our undivided, complete and consistent attention.  We will categorically reject the notion that a “good” life will do at the expense of compromising the pursuit of creating a “great” life in service to others.  We will not neglect our duty and obligation to leverage our passion and purpose in service to our fellowman and strive to make this world a much better place than when we found it.

Be encouraged today and know that I’m extremely proud of you for being the exception to the unwritten rule of settling for a life in pursuit of comfort and average.  I’m proud of you for committing to make it GREAT!

With which word would you like your life to be described in your absence; typical, ordinary, common, normal, usual, fair, so-so, run-of-the-mill, not bad or mediocre?  “Most People” would be disappointed if either of these words were spoken in the same sentence when describing their life-legacy after they’re death.  The hard truth is all of these words are synonyms of the word “average.”  Yep, this word equates basically to a life of “nothing really ventured, nothing really gained,” and the unfortunate reality is most peoples lives end up categorized  this way.

I believe each and every one of us was created and designed to be and do something great, but somewhere along the pathway of our life we settle into “comfort” which breeds a life of “average.”  A life of “average” is okay but I believe we have too many people making “average” and “good” the goal.  Some people will even become upset and defensive when they’re offered the notion of reaching for higher heights and going further to do something outside of themselves and their family for the betterment of others.  It appears they in-some-way feel they need to justify their desire to stay on a life-path of mediocrity.  Hmmmm…  I caution you today to not let this be you.

Many will concede to a life of “average” no doubt,  but not us.  Many may consider settling for a life of “so-so” but not us.  Many will yield and surrender their ambition over to a life of “mediocrity” but not us.  Many will resign themselves to leading a life of “normal,” “usual,” “typical” and “ordinary,” but definitely not us.

I invite you to consider the possibility of living a life of thriving and not merely surviving.  A life in service to others and not just our own brothers.  A life trying to better the world and not just raising our own boys and girls.  In a world where most are pushing and striving for “average” and good, let’s renew our commitment to do what it takes to make it GREAT!

I was having a great conversation with my dad this morning and he reminded my that in the eyes of many we’re only as good as our last favor.  My dad is always good for making statements like this so I wasn’t really surprised when he said it.  But I was surprised how shocking this can be in the moments you experience it first hand.  I must admit there’s nothing shorter in life than the memory’s of those who spend it with their hands out asking for favors.  The last favor tends to fade from their memory rather quickly.  Hmmmm… 

I’m reminded of the words of the late, great 35^th President, John F. Kennedy when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”  Profound words that were so simple yet carried so much weight.  I believe we shouldn’t stumble through this life looking for favors, hand-outs and for what others can do for us, but we should find ways to do for others, for it is true that it is far better to be a giver than to be a receiver of those who are willing to give.  

Yes, I understand that most people tend to have short memories and are oftentimes stuck on a “What have you done for me lately?” mode of thinking.  But, the statement and belief that, “We’re only as good as our last favor,” should never be acceptable.  So, don’t make the mistake of letting your actions justify this statement and belief.  

Our communities are in dire need of servant-leaders who aren’t afraid to step up and step out to lead the charge in showing and modeling to others what it means to be a giver of ones time, talents, treasures and tears.  Let us not be guilty of “knowing it” but not “showing it.” 

So, what have you done for someone else lately?  What are you prepared to do today to make someone else’s day great?  No need to answer out loud, just “show me” and make me proud.

This is definitely a breadcrumb to making it Great.
