After just celebrating my 43rd birthday, I started to think about what would I want to tell the “me” of 30 years ago as a 13-year-old kid.

After careful thought I would simply tell that little guy to “hang-on in there because the adversity you’re going through is preparing and molding you into that person you’ll need to be years from now so that you can share your story with others of what it takes to overcome and become something special.”

So what’s your story? What words of advice would you give that little guy or gal you once were? I invite you to consider leveraging your story for the good of those around you in this great world of ours and help others to believe that they can overcome and Make it GREAT!

This MLK Day I thought that in honor of “The Dreamer” Martin Luther King Jr. I would take a snapshot of what my dreams are and then take a few more positive steps toward accomplishing them. Well, truth be told, I actually manage to engage in this progressive act on a regular basis.

On this day of remembrance I’d like to encourage you to not just “Dream” about it, whatever “it” is for you, but to be about it. Take a little time to reflect on what you’ve done and what it is that you really want to do, then start taking the necessary steps toward getting it done.

Over the years I’ve uncovered and discovered that one of the most destructive lies ever told this side of the universe is the one that many people tell themselves to justify their living small and accepting a life of average and mediocrity.

In my profession I’ve had the rare privilege of speaking to hundreds, if not thousands of people over the years who are trying to traverse the obstacle course of life and you’d be surprised to hear some of the excuses I’ve heard in an attempt to justify a position of not pushing to give more, be more, do more and see more.

After hearing such comments I usually respond with a casual smile followed by a non-threatening invitation for them to consider what “could be” possible for their lives and the lives of others around them if they were just willing to simply put forth a little more consistent effort over time.

The surprising thing that I just can’t ever seem to understand is those who feel the need to argue to protect their mediocre mindset of thinking small and vehemently protest any attempt to change their limited position for the better. Hmmm…

I may be a bit disillusioned in saying this, but I feel compelled to say it anyway, so here goes… I honestly believe that those who truly feel the need to argue for their limitations should get to keep them all to themselves.

Simply put… A life of living small was never printed in the strands of our DNA by our creator, so don’t believe the lie. This is no doubt an adopted trait and notion that should be eradicated and completely illuminated from our psyche and society so as to prevent from scarring the coming generations. A life of living small and within oneself serves no one, including ourselves.

Please don’t plot to kill the messenger today. 🙂 My prayer is that you won’t let this be you. We will choose to model the appropriate behavior for the future generations.

Reach, grow, expand, uplift, empower, encourage, and use your gifts. Commit to always be willing to push to Make it GREAT whatever “it” is for you. Besides “Average” and “Mediocrity” is grossly overrated.

So let’s make this life so GREAT that we won’t see a need to ask for a shot at another one. 😉

Many have asked the question of why do I do what I do the way I do it. Some may think it’s because of the money it can produce. Others may think it’s for the fame and notoriety it can possibly bring. And even still there are some who may attach some other selfish-ambition label on what I do.

But the honest-to-God truth is… I do what I do the way I do it quite simply because I’m afraid. Afraid of what you might ask? Well, I’m afraid of one day dying after having lived a life that was mediocre and really didn’t matter much as it relates to making this world a better place.

I’m afraid of joining the staggering number of sooooo many others who came and saw, but took no steps to conquer.

I’m afraid of being counted amongst the millions, if not billions of people who live-out a life of quiet desperation in a small bubble that did nothing in an attempt to serve the masses and leave their best mark.

Yes my friends, living from a small mindset might be the story of many others but over my dead body will that be my story. This may seem a bit harsh, but I fully intend to squeeze the juice out of this short life of mine in service to the world so when this body is done, there will be no further unused potential.

My prayer is that your sentiment and resolve is similar to mine and that you are fully intending to give the best gift back to the one who created you which is the gift of utilizing your God-given gifts to their full potential and the best of your ability.

Now let’s keep leaning forward in an attempt to not just make this life “good”, but to make this life absolutely GREAT!
