“If I built a house like that I would never sell it.” was the statement one of my group-home boys made after seeing this picture of the place my wife and I built for our family and used to call “home”. I smiled at him and then gently told him, “If genuine Joy is what you seek, then the M&M’s of life will never be enough, because the genuine joy is never found in the stuff.”

As expected, he looked at me with a puzzled scowl on his face and said, “What?” I then explained to him that Money and Material things (M&M’s) will never be enough because genuine joy and satisfaction is never found in “stuff”.

Yes my friends, we can never obtain and sustain genuine joy from what we “receive or achieve”, it’s ONLY made possible from what we “give & how we live”. So the money, job promotions, fancy clothes, fine homes and cars can only get you so far, but the ever-elusive joy is an inside-out job obtained only by giving and purposeful living.

My little group-home buddy struggled with this one a bit but I think a seed of warning has been planted that may one day be instrumental in giving him what he seeks and desires most.

So, a good question for you today is, “Are you giving or getting more these days?” Hmmm… Please don’t answer this question here, just make sure you’re crystal clear. Don’t be surprised if that special Toy falls short of bringing the genuine Joy. Just Fyi… 🙂

I invite you to take a peek at my acronymical definition of CHANGE and consider how it may apply to you in the days ahead:

CHANGE: Choosing to Have A New Goal to Explore.

During the process of CHANGE, we should consider spending less time and energy on maintaining the status quo of what “was” and “what used to be” and re-focus our energy on giving and getting the maximum benefit and value out of what currently “is” and “is to come”.

I encourage you to explore some new possibilities during times of CHANGE and evaluate your new role and set some new goals and consider leveraging your talents and gifts to make your best even better. CHANGE just might be that thing that gets you from “A” to where you want to “B” so you can “C” your way past “D,F & G” (Doubt, Frustration & Grief)

I’ve been doing that “thinking” thing again today and I’d like to give you a little unsolicited heads-up that just might help you on your way to making it GREAT:

Think it NOT strange if you never find God wandering the aisles of Macy’s or shopping at the world famous Nordstrom’s or Neiman Marcus Stores because He’s only been known to shop at Goodwill and the Thrift stores in search of used, abused, irregular, damaged goods to do His handy-work through.

So, if you don’t have any hurts, hang-ups or unhealthy habits, or faults, fallacies or past failures, He simply can’t use you. So, I regret to inform you that if you’ve lived a perfect life, you need NOT apply because no perfect people are allowed on the Good-News Crew.

Simply put, don’t be afraid to embrace your checkered past and leverage it to inspire others for a positive future.

Just thought I’d drop a little nugget of truth into your day today in hopes that it will help you on your way to Making it GREAT!

What a difference 24 hours can make.

From gracing the stage in an attempt to inspire hundreds of Christian Educators with his testimony, to his unexpected first trip in an ambulance to emergency surgery all in less than 24 hours.

As very involved parents, we’re our kid’s biggest cheerleaders when everything is Heavenly and their biggest prayer-worriers when all Hell breaks loose. One thing that I will always know for sure is that the unexpected always happens unexpectedly and you should always have a wildcard in your pocket so you can call-in a favor from a very capable Creator, hint-hint.

Yes, we were totally blindsided by a rare occurrence with Little “C” that caused him to experience excruciating pain. Shaking, shivering, numbness, cramping, etc, etc. was the symptoms and to top it all off, the ER computer systems were down and they were reduced to a 1930’s system of operations which dramatically slowed down the process and it scared the living bajeebers out of us. Then came the 10 milligrams of morphine and suddenly things started to change with the pain. 🙂

From poise on the stage in one hour and poise enduring incredible suffering in the next, this little guy continues to inspire me in many different ways. His strength actually gave me strength and his managing to keep it together actually helped me to do the same. I’m sure glad he shares my name. 🙂

Yes, all suddenly went on “pause” for a few scary hours but all is now back to “well” in Camelot with the Crawford’s. Full recovery is underway and he lives to fight another day. A valuable reminder here indeed, sometimes those who we’ve inspired may eventually turn around and inspire us. 🙂
